Living with a Hovawart
As the owner of a Hovawart you need to be an excellent leader of the pack: patient, relaxed and consistent. From the very beginning you need to be firm, even if he is only a cuddly bundle looking you tenderly in the eye. That look masks a determination to see just how far he can push you. Who will end up being the boss in your relationship depends entirely on you. Should you flinch he will take over. You will need a lot of time, patience, firmness and a good sense of humour if you want to educate your dog correctly. Remember this when he pretends to be day dreaming during an exercise or gives you the impression he is doing it for the first time! |
|
The Hovawart will be devoted to you AND your family, so keep that in mind when you include him in your next vacation.
The Hovawart needs a lot of daily attention and some. Try to spend as much time as you can with him and don't be away from him for more than 4 hours. It just isn't fair.
Although the Hovawart does not need a lot of space he is a big dog and needs a lot of exercise. A garden is fine but this does not preclude a long daily or spending some quality time with him. The crate is NOT a place for the Hovawart, he would find it intolerable.
Sachant donc tout cela, si vous êtes disposé a vous consacrer jour après jour à votre Hovawart, à le promener, à jouer et faire des tas de choses avec lui, |
 |
then you are ready to welcome a puppy into your home. |
