The function of the school |
Not only does the school train the dogs but it also teaches the visually impaired who are about to get a dog how to become the true masters of their charges.
It is a holistic programme. A multi-disciplinary team examines each application. The allocation of a dog depends largely on the personality of the recipient who will be trained when the dog is delivered.
Thereafter the master-dog team remains in close contact with the school and returns regularly for renewed training. The school does everything in its power to create a harmonious environment for the visually impaired, no matter where they might be.
The gratuitous education and gift of a dog are made possible by grants.
40 guide dogs are given away annually.
Each year the Paris school holds 2 «open houses» , in may and september.
Date of next Open Day
The school also opens its doors on first Wednesday of every month afternoon from 2 pm till 5:30 pm.

These encounters allow the dogs to get rid of some of their excess energy and any stress that may have built up while they were working. This is also the moment when the visually impaired can meet the volunteers of the school. Everyone meets in the hall of the school at 2pm on a set day. |
The action begins at 2.10pm and the excitement rivals the start of a F1 race! The dogs sense that there are fun and games ahead! The playground isn't far away! They are taken to the Vincennes forest where they are allowed to run free and play with each other. |

While the dogs are having fun the owners and vigilant volunteers can exchange ideas.
The encounters usually last about 2 hours. After the walk all the dogs are showered by the volunteers and some owners lend a hand. This would be the time when they can find out about any health problems that their dogs might have.
In summary, these encounters are pleasurable moments to be shared by old friends and new. |
If your dog comes from the Paris school and you wish to participate in one of the Fun and Game encounters, contact the school. You will always be welcome. |
